MIS

MIS is a portal for investors to monitor the portfolios of their clients online. I helped create rough wireframes of a redesign of the page, mainly just reorganization of clutter.

My Company Stock Design Goals

  • Explore methods of notifications. I was asked to explore different ways to notify users if the value of the stock they are following changes. I hoped to do this in unintrusive ways, unless it was a drastic change.

  • Terms & Privacy. I also looked into which screens and locations the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy should be found.

Enabling Touch ID

I was thinking about the flows of enabling Touch ID. One way I thought of was informing users of the option when they sign in for the first time, and redirecting them towards 'Account Settings' to turn it on.

Turning it on would also display a message that confirmed their decision. The people I spoke with weren't too sure about this idea of "reconfirming," and it was suggested that the message could be added just below the button.

I played with the idea of throwing Touch ID under a 'Security' tab in the app that also gave users the control of seeing what devices could access their account.

If signed out, the user wouldn't see the prompt to sign into the app with Touch ID unless they went to the 'Sign In' screen. This was decided to be a good idea in case a new user attempts to create an account; they shouldn't see the Touch ID prompt.

I played with many ways of depicting the 'Settings' tab. I didn't like the idea of displaying too much, and thought that perhaps having a toggle slide feature or having the user tap on 'General,' 'Help,' and 'Security' for more options was a better method of organization; visually, at least.

iPhone Design App Goals

  • Reorganize 'Settings' and consolidate icon buttons. I sought a way to throw miscellaneous options under a universal icon, and thusly had to revisualize how the options would look under a shared destination.

  • Touch ID incorporation. The mobile team was set on using Touch ID as another method of signing in. I was asked to help look for ways to include it visually.

Clients & Portfolios

  • Introduced a fullscreen view of all names, along with total value and the last time each portfolio had been reviewed. User taps on each name to view more information.

  • Users can view clients or prospects by tapping the segmented control at the top. The nav bar at the bottom is universal and is accessible at all times when using the app.

There is a list of all portfolios under a client's name, as well as who the portfolios are assigned to. Total value is found in the second column. Daily change of the portfolio's value is shown by the green/red numbers in the third column.

Client Page

This lists the summary of a particular portfolio for a client. This is useful in getting an in-depth description of how a portfolio is performing.

Users can control the displayed information through the segmented control widget at the top.

There is also a back button on the top left to help users navigate to the previous page. Tapping on the 'Clients & Portfolios' button on the nav bar is a shortcut if the user wishes to circumvent all previous pages.

Morningstar

I was assigned as part of the Mobile Team of Morningstar during my internship. I worked with a visual designer and a UX designer to create wireframes/mockups of ideas and redesigns of apps to show to the product managers.

I redesigned the iPad app, redesigned a web app for financial advisors, explored ways to incorporate Touch ID into the mobile app, and created wireframes for how notifications appear for a stock-tracking app (My Company Stock).

Everything was created with Sketch.

iPad Design App Goals

  • Reorganize 'Clients & Portfolios'. This particular part of the app was particularly hard to navigate. Entering the section and viewing the relevant information was counterintuitive, and I set out to rework the user flow.

  • Introduce a better way to navigate. The app stored a lot of content under a 'hamburger' menu. I wanted to create a universal nav bar that was easy to reach and contained all major features.

Settings Reorganized

I wanted to place the links in a place that made sense. My first thoughts were on the home screen as small links on the bottom.

I also explored placing it on the page right before they confirm the stock the want to track and actually start using the app.

This was a little difficult to monitor, as most apps include these links right before a user signs in, but My Company Stock doesn't require an account.

AWS Login

One of the iPad apps requires a two-step login. I created a few mockups exploring ways to prevent users from having an extra step.
