MCS: Social Feature Goals
-
Bring together friends & family. Users who aren't too familiar with finance can join/create groups with their friends or family members where they can share advice or ask questions.
-
Keep newer investors in the loop. Users can stay up to date with this social feature by seeing what Morningstar's MDP team is sharing. They can also follow what others are up to financially and easily switch back to the main feature of MCS.

Other Features
There is a blog that puts up recent posts about sustainability. This is show that there is an active community full of millennials who care about ESG and investing.
We also had the idea of having younger Morningstar employees go to different college campuses to spread awareness of the value of investing early and sustainable investing.

Investing Classroom
One of the main features of this dashboard is the Investing Classroom, which provides tutorials and knowledge of basic economic principles. Many young people Google these terms and we've consolidated them onto one page.

This page was dedicated to sustainable investing and includes a survey that lets users see where they should invest if they possess certain values.
We wanted to use ESG as a way to motivate younger people to get started with investing. I believe that they would invest early if they can find companies that share their same worldly concerns.
ESG Page
Our team thought a calculator would be neat. This would allow users to see how much they could make if they started investing early.
We also thought of giving the users a few other calculators, such as one to help them plan out their payoff of college loans.
Financial Calculators

Clicking on 'More Options' will give users more versatility. This will provide more knowledgeable users greater details in regards of their final investments.
We've provided users what their financial situations could look like with all different types of investments that are color coded. I hoped this would give them an idea of what they want to invest in.
Homepage
I opted for a homepage that delivered a 'pitch.' I hoped that simple terms and goals of Morningstar's services would be enough to stir interest from a visitor.
Note how there is an absence of strong financial jargon found on most investment agencies' sites. The purpose was to get rid of any barrier to entry and assume that the user knows nothing about finance.

Morningstar: Intern Project
Interns were divided into groups and provided the prompt of exploring ways to promote Morningstar's sustainability ratings within the market. We were also asked to look for ways to expand their marketbase into younger generations.
My team consisted of a few people who did a lot of research into finance and millennials; I took their research and ideas, and came up with a web dashboard geared towards millennials. The dashboard includes tutorials of investing and informative articles regarding sustainable investing, as well as an option to call advisors to learn more about sustainability. We also thought of a social feature to add to one of Morningstar's upcoming apps.
Dashboard for New Investors Goals
-
Simplify and make finance accessible. A large barrier to entry was that financial sites provided information that was too overwhelming or confusing for someone who has no experience working with those terms. We sought to remedy this problem.
-
Provide resources and motivate millennials. Part of the goal was to provide a website that was visually appealing, but we also wanted to provide resources and use sustainability as a way to motivate millennials to start investing early.

Joining Groups
Users can easily join/create groups with their friends, family, or join local ones.
These in a way serve as a forum for financial advice. Members of a particular group can converse amongst themselves. Introducing a social aspect would in theory help motivate people to invest while preventing them from being too fearful if they aren't too familiar with finance.
